Many people feel disconnected from the political process. In most elections, voters choose among candidates nominated by political parties rather than from an open field of everyone who might be qualified. Campaigns require enormous amounts of money, and fundraising often receives as much attention as the issues themselves. We are told that voting is our voice. Yet for many people, that voice is limited to a handful of choices every few years. Utopia is built to give communities a place to organize, share information, evaluate public officials, and make their voices heard between elections—not just on Election Day.
