As USC’s first South Asian film club, Kathaa is committed to creating visibility for South Asian film, art, creatives, industries, and intellectual discourse on campus, while fostering a community for South Asian creatives to find their unique storytelling voice. By organising screenings with the cast and crew of films from across the region, working with faculty to improve coverage on South Asian film history in SCA classes, and creating social media and podcast content to engage critically with South Asian media, we hope to pave the way for creating better understanding of our cinema in institutions of higher education across the West, while broadening the discourse of this powerful, yet often overlooked, industry. Our mission is to create a culture for the intellectual appreciation of South Asian cinema across demographics while empowering South Asian students in this field to connect with professionals to further their craft.
