Glad you asked! uRide is a veteran-owned start-up focusing on providing affordable, convenient transportation for students, while also creating jobs for student-veterans. uRide’s mission is simple: we provide professional, prepaid car service to students, and give parents peace of mind. How does it work? Easy! New users sign up for a membership and fund their account at www.uride.net. (Often, parents will fund a uRide debit account for their students/children, and enjoy the security of knowing that the risk of a DWI, or worse, has been addressed since they are being transported by a professionally trained driver.) When they need a ride, members simply order their car through the uRide app, which tracks both the driver’s location and time of arrival for pickup. Three taps on the app brings a uRide car, driven by a professionally trained and uniformed uRide driver, to a student’s location for about the cost of cab fare. There is no reliance on phones or radio dispatching of vehicles, and no more wondering when, or if, the car is going to arrive. (Oh, and did we mention that our cars are all new, environmentally-friendly Toyota Prius V's?) Once inside the uRide car, the passenger simply confirms their identity, enjoys the ride, and their account is debited the fare amount when they arrive at their destination. That’s it! Safe.
