Each of us has a passion for global health and wanted to do something about pressing health probelms in developing countries. We came to Zimbabwe in September of 2010 to treat children for schistosomiasis, a parasitic worm disease that causes severe effects in children. Since then, we have been laboring to get our project off the ground; the going has been tough but we have made great progress. Our members are young and creative, and dedicated to buliding our treatment programs algorithmically to be as efficient as possible. We are fervently dedicated to our tasks, capable of working in volatile settings without personal comforts, for a $3/day stipend. Upenyu was founded in 2010 to address the needs of children in Zimbabwe, particularly with regards to Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). Upenyu Health Group is a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) organization in the USA and receives support from the general public.
