The UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN MEDICAL STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION (UIMSA) is the first Medical school in Nigeria and the largest in Sub-Sahara Africa. Our history dates as far back as 1948 when the prestigious premier University of Ibadan was founded with membership strength of more than 1,200 Medical students. The association boasts of having produced skilled, responsible and highly renowned doctors in the continent and beyond. One of the objectives of UIMSA is to contribute effectively to all health projects where medical students can be of help. We achieve this through capacity building workshops for our members as well as health sensitization outreaches/ public health campaigns in collaboration with NGOs, affiliates, individuals, etc. Over the years, UIMSA has planned and executed several programmes and projects aimed at improving the health of Nigerians. These include market/street outreaches, symposia and rural public health campaigns on several health issues such as HIV/AIDS, Hypertension, Malaria, Breast feeding, Maternal and Child health. In 2007, UIMSA in collaboration with The Federation of African Medical Students’ Association (FAMSA) and Nigeria Medical Students’ Association (NIMSA) organized a capacity building workshop for medics from all over the nation. UIMSA has in the past, partnered with a lot of reputable organizations like the Ford Foundation, Association for Family and Reproductive Health (ARFH), Healthy Life for All Foundation, LEAP Africa, Fate Foundation in planning and implementing programmes geared towards the uplifting of mankind.
