Established in 2012, the University at Buffalo’s New York State Center of Excellence in Material Informatics (CMI) plays a significant role in spurring economic development regionally and across the globe by connecting companies with UB’S vast research and development assets to facilitate relationships between private industry and the material scientists who are making the next great breakthroughs in technology. CMI’s work focuses on three key segments that are equally important to the advancement of material science, and Western New York’s economy: advanced manufacturing (including nanomaterials, graphene and ceramics); life sciences (including medical devices, drug delivery, and imaging technologies); and clean energy (including rare earth elements, smart building materials, and fuel cell technologies). Since its establishment, CMI has engaged with over 100 companies related to materials or advanced manufacturing who wish to create partnerships with UB’s vast network of technical resources and capabilities.
