Established by Congress in 1965, the National Endowment for the Arts is an independent federal agency that is the largest funder of the arts and arts education in communities nationwide and a catalyst of public and private support for the arts. By advancing opportunities for arts participation and practice, the NEA fosters and sustains an environment in which the arts benefit everyone in the United States.

Founded in 1961, Theatre Communications Group's mission is to strengthen, nurture, and promote the professional nonprofit theatre. TCG's membership includes over 750 Theatres and Affiliates and 12,000 individuals nationwide. Led by the core values of Artistry, Diversity, Activism, and Global Citizenship, TCG offers networking, knowledge building, grantmaking, performing arts advocacy, capacity building, professional development, and conducts research to assess the field's changing needs. TCG strengthens the theatre ecology through the publication of American Theatre and its TCG Books program, which has over 3,000 titles in print, including 19 Pulitzer Prize-winning plays. In 2005, TCG received the Tony Award for Excellence in Theatre in recognition of its impact on the national field.

For more than 50 years, ArtsFund has strengthened the community by raising funds from individuals and businesses to support the region’s nonprofit arts sector through grants and other organizational assistance. Through its allocations process, ArtsFund has distributed more than $100 million in grants to a broad range of more than 100 arts groups in a wide variety of disciplines and scales throughout Washington State. ArtsFund's grants provide general operating support--typically the most difficult funding for the groups to find, and arguably the most critical. As the central voice for the arts in the region, ArtsFund provides capacity-building programs, conducts important research and advocates on behalf of the sector.
