Bridging The Gap brings people together to protect and restore the web of life on Earth and foster inclusive, thriving communities through environmental education, innovation, and action. With the help of 1,400 volunteers annually, we educate citizens, businesses and governments about the impact their decisions have on our environment, and help them follow through with direct action to make our world, region and community green, healthy and sustainable.

Since 1977, Community Bridges has been a catalyst for a brighter future by opening doors, offering hope and providing a hand up to the people of Santa Cruz County. We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world: redwood forests, a marine sanctuary, and thriving farmlands. But even in paradise, there is struggle. At Community Bridges, we pride ourselves on providing the resources that lead to positive change in peoples’ lives. Our family of ten vital programs, across twenty different sites, meets the needs of thousands of local children, families and seniors each year. While each program is remarkable on its own, brought together... they are unstoppable. Every day, we work collaboratively to build the safety net in our community and discover solutions to emerging issues. Our programs empower seniors to live with independence and dignity, increase access to medical care and good nutrition, prevent child abuse through parent education, and work to close the academic achievement gap. Our mission is to create opportunities that empower Guatemalan women to build a better life. Friendship Bridge provides microfinance, education, and preventive health services to help clients build resilience and pursue opportunities. We call this our Microcredit Plus program. 100% of our clients are women, and we target rural areas where poverty levels are highest in Guatemala. Friendship Bridge’s average loan size is $318 over nine months with a 2-3% monthly flat interest rate, and our clients maintain a 97.7% loan repayment rate. To borrow through Friendship Bridge’s Microcredit Plus program, women must first form groups of 7-25 members called Trust Banks. Each Trust Bank co-guarantees individual member’s loans and the women participate in Non-Formal Education sessions that are part of every monthly loan repayment meeting. Our vision?
