United Way of Monroe County has been serving the Monroe County community's health and human service needs since 1942. Mission The mission of United Way of Monroe County, a leader in supporting the well-being of people in our community, is to build partnerships to improve lives and provide solutions to those facing life's challenges. We believe that the United Way of Monroe County: • Cares for and is passionate about our community. • Advocates a sustainable standard of living. • Supports the needs of a diverse population. • Educates the community. • Builds partnerships and engages people. • Acts with integrity as a leader in the community. Company Overview United Way of Monroe County has been serving the Monroe County community's health and human service needs since 1942. We currently fund programs that address our four targeted need areas of: • Engaging Youth - programs that help youth achieve their full potential and become active citizens. • Helping Children Succeed - programs that focus on the education, mentoring, development and safety of our children. • Meeting Basic Needs - programs that provide help for all of us when we need it, including food, shelter and emergency services. • Promoting Self-Sufficiency - programs that provide care/information and promote self-reliance, especially for seniors and citizens who are disabled. In 2010, we supported 35 programs at 25 different partner agencies.
