United Way Newfoundland and Labrador is a charity that partners with workplaces to raise money for direct investment into charitable projects/programs run throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Simply put, United Way is a charity’s charity. As the second largest funder of the social sector – second only to the government – UW distributes funds to charities province-wide who are seeking financial support for various projects they are unable to fund independently. Donations made to UW are distributed as grants, accessible through an application process for Registered Canadian Charities operating in Newfoundland and Labrador. In 2014, UW distributed $525,000 to 46 charities province-wide. UW's 3 key focus areas: • Moving individuals from Poverty into Possibility • Creating Healthy People, Strong Communities • Ensuring kids have every opportunity to be All That Kids Can Be UWNL believes it takes the whole community working together to change social conditions. Working with businesses of every size, UW fundraises through annual workplace campaigns. There are many ways to contribute to UW from a business owner’s perspective and the campaign is fully customizable at the request of each workplace. Businesses can take part in one or all of the giving options listed below. Giving Options: • Run an Employee Giving Campaign – present employees with the opportunity to make a donation to the UW Community Fund and/or designate their donation to another charity. • Host a Special Event in support of UW – ie: Bake Sale, golf tournament, lip sync battle, etc. • Make a Corporate Donation on behalf of the company • Participate in a Day of Caring Event whereby a team of workplace volunteers are matched with a local charity in need of some assistance. UW can cater to your workplace and its Corporate Social Responsibility. To find out how you can support UWNL, and as a result those most vulnerable in our province, please contact us.
