The USHC publishes Long Term Care Planning: A Dollar and Sense Guide. This 100-page book, which is frequently revised, offers the consumer an overview of all long-term care services, how to access them and how to pay for them. Over 100,000 copies of the book have been sold since it was first published in 1988. NCOA has developed sophisticated web-based decision-support tools to help consumers decide how to pay for long-term care. United Seniors Health Council, formerly called the United Seniors Health Cooperative, is a non-profit organization that has been publishing unbiased consumer information since 1986. Dr. Arthur Flemming, former secretary of the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, Esther Peterson, former White House consumer affairs advisor and James P. Firman, president and CEO of The National Council on the Aging, founded USHC in 1984.
