United Catalyst, LLC has recently invented a novel method for releasing the valuable sugar, or glucose, from all forms of cellulose. This breakthrough technology will improve the economic viability of biomass to sugar conversion, a critical step in the production of cellulosic ethanol and other advanced bio-fuels and bio-chemicals. Conversion of biomass into valuable fermentable sugar using CHIPs catalyst technology proves to be more efficient and scaleable than traditional enzymatic hydrolysis. Applications include conversion of large scale agricultural waste residues (corn-stover, sugar cane bagasse) as well as industrial process byproducts like those found in pulp and paper production, and food and beverage processes, a 'waste-to-revenue' opportunity for many industrial plants. United Catalyst has chemically engineered an inert material to act as a catalyst in the hydrolysis process. The company continues to develop technology and performance data to optimize concentration mixtures for various types of cellulosic biomass and is working with corporate partners and strategic investors for manufacturing and process design.
