UFM is one of the largest minority owned businesses in the City of Pontiac; we employ 22 Pontiac residents. We work directly with the Oakland County Children's Village BRAVO program, providing a highly structured work experience in our kitchen for troubled males between the ages of 12-16. Under direct supervision, the students learn usable kitchen skills, and positive work ethics that will help them in their future. UFM collaborates with Pontiac's Kennedy Schools MOCI (Moderately Cognitively Impaired) Program and New Horizon's Special Services providing vocational work training, and experience for high school and post high school students. We are very proud to have hired three students into permanent jobs. UFM has partnered with Job Link Youth Program for several years. This program is focused on providing summer employment and after school job opportunities in the local community, to high school youths form low income families. Annually we provide jobs for up to twelve local teens, teaching them basic job skills and work ethics. Many of the youths we have employed throughout the years have been students of Pontiac Academy. UFM is an externship training site for the Dorsey School of Culinary Arts. Several of these chef externs have assisted at PAE on various special catered events. One of these former externs, Sonya Riley now works at PAE as the food service coordinator. UFM collaborates with McLaren Hospital to provide meals to the homeless at Pontiac's Baldwin Shelter. Since 1996, Pontiac Meals on Wheels (a division of UFM) has served Pontiac's senior community delivering meals to homebound senior citizens five days per week. Every year Pontiac Meals on Wheels delivers a hot meal to those clients on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. UFM/Pontiac Meals on Wheels co-sponsors with AARP annually, a summer picnic at Pontiac's Bowen Senior Center. Over 300 local seniors attend to discuss senior issues while sharing in a delicious, fresh grilled lunch.
