UltraNutri is a Bangalore-based Insect Farming startup. It is currently developing a technology to use non-competing agri waste (such as sugarcane bagasse, corn cobs, rice stem etc) into digestible feedstock/substrate for growing Black Soldier Fly Larvae. These agri waste have complex and undigestible carbohydrates and thus currently are burnt away leading to 10x more carbon emission as compared to burning fossil fuels. The focus on immediate application is in aquaculture, especially in the shrimp farming industry which is heavily dependent on usage of fishmeal. Insect Meal has been established as a sustainable alternative to fishmeal.
