The UJIMA Foundation, Inc. is a community-based, outreach organization who has applied for Federal Tax-exemption Status under the rulings of a 501(c) 3. Governed by a board of directors, the UJIMA Foundation provides prevention, education, intervention, support and resources to the minority Communities throughout the State of Maryland. The major outreach efforts offered by the UJIMA Foundation have been a series of established innovative programs that increase communication and coordination of services aimed at creating a healthy community. The current focus areas have been around healthy living and cancer awareness, education and outreach. The programs are guided through a comprehensive plan of action that provides concrete information, educational materials, and forums that bring to light the necessities and responsibilities that each individual has in living healthy and living longer. The natural outcome is a positive healthy change in individuals as well as local communities. The UJIMA Foundation has been in existence for less then one year, while Cooking with Lee and healthy living has been in existence for more then more six years and has been the catalyst for the establishment of this organization. We have been very successful in our outreach efforts, because we bring our programs and initiatives into the communities we serve. This unique, yet simple feature sets the UJIMA Foundation apart from other similar minded organizations throughout the State. The 'Health Fair' concept has been our launching pad for our outreach efforts. We recently surpassed all goals in registering more than 200 participants in our first Annual Health and Food Fest. The UJIMA Foundation has not limited its outreach efforts to the minority communities. We truly understand the struggles and we are successful because of the assistance of individuals, government and businesses who believe in our mission.
