twig is a full-stack AI bioengineering company building the technology layers to design, engineer, and scale microbial production of high-performance, sustainable molecules for personal care and cosmetics, speciality industrial chemicals and beyond. A key differentiator is our end-to-end data engine - bio:drive. We’ve built our lab, assay, and fermentation workflows specifically to generate high-quality, structured data for AI, capturing genotype–phenotype relationships, pathway performance, and bioprocess conditions. This gives us a compounding advantage in training predictive models on real, high-signal data. At the core of the bio:drive platform: 1. CANOPY – our foundation model for engineering biology, guiding target selection, pathway design, and strain optimisation. 2. Hazel – a biomanufacturing specific multi-agent system that researches, evaluates and validates molecule/ingredient candidates, presenting risks and potential mitigations across key stages from discovery through to TEA and scale-up risk. Enzyme Generation – combining state-of-the-art protein language models with biophysical simulation to design and evaluate enzymes for novel and manufacturing-optimised biochemistry. Combined with our high-throughput, low-cost lab processes, we routinely build and test a design space of millions of unique genotypes, generating deep datasets that improve our predictive power. We are at a stage where models guide experiments and experiments continuously improve the models—across both strain engineering and bioprocess development (e.g. media optimisation, fermentation conditions). We span the full stack from enzyme → pathway → strain → process, and focus on bringing sustainable, high-performance molecules to market that can compete with petrochemicals on cost, performance and impact.
