Connections Transition Program is a collaborative partnership between Mountain Brook Schools and Samford University designed to prepare students with disabilities for meaningful, connected, and increasingly independent adult lives beyond high school. Established in 2012, Connections provides a college-embedded transition experience for students ages 18–21. Located within Samford University’s Orlean Beeson School of Education, the program bridges high school and adult life through authentic learning experiences on campus, in the workplace, and throughout the community. Students develop skills in employment, communication, self-advocacy, time management, financial literacy, problem-solving, and independent living. They navigate campus, participate in university life, build social and professional relationships, and gain valuable experience through on-campus employment and community-based work opportunities. What makes Connections unique is the power of partnership. By combining the individualized transition services of Mountain Brook Schools with the resources and opportunities of Samford University and our community partners, students build connections to employment, friendships, mentors, resources, campus life, and future opportunities. Our mission is to empower students to grow vocationally, socially, and personally while developing the skills, relationships, confidence, and independence needed to succeed in adult life. Prepare. Connect. Succeed. Building skills. Building relationships. Building futures.
