Tufnol is a pioneering UK brand of synthetic resin bonded laminated plastics, with a legacy of innovation dating back to Birmingham, 1929. Originally developed for the George Ellison Switchgear Company, Tufnol materials quickly became essential in electrical insulation, mechanical engineering, and aerospace. Our composites, made from layers of paper, cotton, or glass fibre bonded with resin under heat and pressure, offer outstanding strength, durability, and insulation. These non-metallic materials have replaced traditional metals like steel and brass across industries, providing lightweight, corrosion-resistant alternatives. Over nearly a century, Tufnol has supported major engineering milestones, from components for Spitfire aircraft and Bletchley Park’s bombe machines during WWII, to advanced polyimide grades for aerospace and industrial furnaces. Our marine-grade composites were approved for rudder bearings in the 1970s, and today we serve sectors including Rail, Marine, Construction, Electrical, and Offshore. Now part of the Diamorph Group, Tufnol operates from an advanced manufacturing facility in Gloucester, benefiting from shared expertise in advanced materials and global innovation.
