Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute (hereinafter referred to as TBSI) was co-established by Tsinghua University, UC Berkeley and Shenzhen Municipal Government in 2014. Our vision is to build a unique global platform for interdisciplinary, international and industry-partnership research and education for future world leaders and entrepreneurs. Addressing societal needs and global challenges, TBSI is organized in three trans-disciplinary centers of Environmental Science & New Energy Technology, Precision Medicine & Healthcare, and Data Science & Information Technology, with sixteen laboratories. With unprecedented, synergistic collaboration between UC Berkeley and Tsinghua University, TBSI will provide an international and innovative research platform and graduate curricula. The headquarters of TBSI are located in the Nanshan Intelligence Industrial Park, with offices and laboratories in the Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University and the University of California, Berkeley. The faculty of TBSI will be composed of 100 PIs, 30% of which come from Tsinghua University, another 30% come from UC Berkeley, with the remainder to be recruited globally. To build a transformative research and education partnership in strategic emerging industries, TBSI has invited industrial advisors to introduce new international elements into the innovation system of Shenzhen and China. TBSI has established Industry Advisory Board (IAB), which including advisors from Tencent, DJI, BYD, ZTE, and Cisco, etc. TBSI recruits top students from both home and abroad. With a superior scientific research environment, TBSI encourages innovation and creation in multi-disciplinary research.
