Truro is an important center for public and post secondary education in central Nova Scotia. Modern well equipped schools provide comprehensive academic studies, as well as programs helping those with special needs. The school encourages entrepreneurship in the community by identifying certain needs in course programming. One of the newer additions to the curriculum is the New Media Design and Development program, specializing in leading edge computer programming and applications. There are also numerous extension credit programs from Halifax universities. The Institute for Human Services Education is a private, non-profit college registered with the NS Department of Education Private Career College Division. Founded in 1972, the IHSE delivers top quality educational programs to those persons wishing to work in the human services field in a variety of professional settings. Located on Aberdeen Street, the Acadian School of Truro (l'École acadienne de Truro) provides parents with the opportunity of a french based education for their children. Interested francophone families can contact the school at 896-4500. Located on Elm Street since 1979, the Colchester Christian Academy (2.48 MB) provides parents with the opportunity of a Christian based education for their children in grades K5 to 12.
