Troop 700 Information

Troop 700 serves Grapevine, Texas and its surrounding communities. Through active boys, parents, and leaders we maintain a fun, safe environment that teaches young men the values and skills they need to become outstanding citizens in our community and nation. We were founded in 1969 and have proudly produced excellent Scouts, many of which have earned the rank of Eagle. Troop 700 is chartered by the United Methodist Church of Grapevine and typically meets on Mondays at 7:00 P.M. at the Family Center. We are a boy lead troop! Every summer our scouts get together and plan their outdoor activities for the entire year. Take a look at ourcalenderfor the activities we currently have planned. They include canoeing, backpacking, biking, spelunking, wilderness survival, orienteering, pioneering, bouldering, fishing, rocketry, snorkeling ...just to name a few. We like to be in the outdoors. Each month the scouts plan a weekend campout. We camp in rain, shine and snow and have a great time no matter the weather. Our current calendar for 2015-2016 provides 46 outdoor camping nights including winter camp, summer camp, and our high adventure trip to Sea Base in St. Thomas USVI. The Troop will also attend and compete in the Lakeview District Camporee. The Scouts enjoy seeing their friends from other troops during the competitions. Our weekly Troop meetings are an opportunity to learn new skills, plan meals for the campouts, and play competitive games among the patrols. The Senior Patrol Leader and his assistants plan and run the meetings. Our troop holds elections for these leadership positions every six months. Things get interesting in the summer. Every year the scouts elect to go a different summer camp. This is a great opportunity for scouts to move forward with rank advancements, earn merit badges, and participate in exciting activities. Small boat sailing, rifle and shotgun shooting, swimming, archery, climbing, lifesaving, motor-boating, metalworking and fishing are just a handful of the many activities the boys can enjoy while attending summer camp. Our older scouts, typically fourteen years and above, determine which high adventure trek they would like to attend. In the recent past, the boys have gone to Northern Tier, Sea Base, and Philmont. Last year they went to Philmont, where they backpacked in the back country of Cimarron, New Mexico for ten days.
