Why did we decide to make another travel site when the industry is simply groaning with choice? Well despite the good the bad and the sometimes very ugly we didn’t feel that you could really plan your trip with any great sense of context. By that we mean that we didn’t really feel that you could plan a trip to the V&A and amble back to your Portobello garret accommodation via various eating and drinking establishments guided by a single hand held planner providing you with all sorts of useful contextual information – historical relevance, cultural background or even the price of a beer at your chosen hostelry. Furthermore there was nothing around to provide the owner of that hostelry, for example, with a solid publishing platform on which they could sell their wares. Our aim is to get more visitors to our city into the lesser known boroughs to expose those hidden gems. A recent study investigating London boroughs revealed that only 1 in 20 visitors were international tourists. We have lofty aims to change all that. TripTide.London is a new online travel portal to bring travellers and the local community together onto a single platform from which visitors can access, purchase and share definitive information, experiences, advice about the destination and its tourism products. It uses a revolutionary combination of technology, community networks, social media and hand held apps to create a multi-dimensional resource for both the London travel industry and consumer. The TripTide concept is based on the premise that the immense, largely untapped resource of insider knowledge held by the local community and tourism suppliers, combined with the experiences and the powerful word-of- mouth from repeat visitors, gives new travellers the very best information on which to draw when both planning and enjoying a visit.
