The objective of the Port of Rotterdam Authority is to enhance the port’s competitive position as a logistics hub and world-class industrial complex. Not only in terms of size, but also with regard to quality. The North Adriatic Gulf and its coasts have always been playing an important role for their communities: at first, they would provide shelter and repair from Barbarian invasions, and then, over the centuries, they become source of wealth and cultural enrichment, thanks to the maritime trades and routes settled by great navigators. The Venetian Gulf benefit in fact from the handling of precious goods (such as spices and salt) and the ability to build solid relationships with the Mediterranean and Far East markets. Venice and Chioggia are strongly routed into their relationship with the sea, that made them prosper, evolve, specialize. Still today, the two ports belong to a single system, the Veneto Region port system, which keeps on making the history of the North East of Italy, providing specializations and strong complementarities in a thousand-year old tradition. Il golfo e i territori costieri alto adriatici da sempre giocano un ruolo fondamentale per lo sviluppo delle comunità di riferimento: in incipit come rifugio dalle invasioni barbariche e poi nei secoli come fonte di ricchezza e arricchimento culturale, grazie ai traffici marittimi tracciati dai grandi navigatori, alla gestione di merci preziosissime per l’epoca (come le spezie e il sale), alla capacità di costruire relazioni con i diversi mercati del Mediterraneo e fino all’Estremo Oriente. Venezia e Chioggia hanno radici antichissime, che affondano nella relazione con il mare, capace di farle fiorire, evolvere, specializzarsi. Ancora oggi I due porti fanno parte di un unico Sistema, quello portuale Veneto, che sta continuando a costruire la storia del Nordest d’Italia a partire da specializzazioni e complementarietà consolidate in una tradizione millenaria.
