Phil McKinney spent thirty years running the technology and innovation functions of some of the largest organizations in the country β as Chief Technology Officer of Hewlett-Packard, then as President and CEO of CableLabs. In both roles, his job was never to analyze. It was to decide: what to build, what to kill, when to move. He made those calls in public too β dated, on camera, since 2009. The record still stands today, checkable, at roughly 92% accuracy.
Techtrend Group, founded in 1996, is where he makes those calls for other leaders. Not analysis handed off for someone else to act on. The decision itself: the launch, the kill, the pivot, when to wait, when to partner. Made directly by someone whoβs made it before, under real stakes, in public.
He works with a small number of leaders at a time, structured as a retainer, an equity relationship, or both, and takes on only the work where heβs confident he can make a real difference. If he isnβt, he says so.
