With Trattoria Lucca, Chef Ken Vedrinkski brings a true Italian dining experience to downtown Charleston. “Lucca” was inspired by the ancient Tuscan city of Lucca, Italy, renowned for its olive oils, which are generously shared here at Lucca. Italian imported cheese and sausages are integrated into our menu with the freshest farm to table lowcountry vegetables and fruits, and fresh seafood from the waters surrounding Charleston. Lucca diners will enjoy a modestly priced menu of diverse and acclaimed Assaggini (starters), from the Warm Cauliflower Sformatino ($7) to the Proscuitto di Parma Grand Reserva, ($9); and handmade pastes (pastas) featuring Gnudi, Risotto, Tagliolini and Bucatini combined with such ingredients as goat butter, Trumpet mushrooms and the all-star, homemade Italian duck sausage ($18-$23). Piatti (plates) offer a selection of local flounder, hangar steak, Berkshire pork chop, and Ashley farm chicken ($21-$24). The Veneto (wine list) is expansive – but not expensive. All of the bottles are in the $30-$40 range, with only two at $50. Numerous by-the-glass choices are available for $8 or $9.
