TOYINE SELLERS Texture & Design Information

TOYINE SELLERS, the textile atelier, is located near Lyon, France, an area with a rich weaving history. It was founded in 2010, by interior designer and Parsons School of Design graduate Toyine Sellers. We conceive, design and manufacture unique textiles, handwoven rugs, handmade pillows and throws. Our textiles are woven on traditional mechanical looms by skilled artisans. They can be produced in upholstery or curtain weight, with or without metallic yarns and per our clients’ individual custom instructions. Our rugs are woven by hand on manual looms involving artisanal production and know-how. We weave in the finest linen, silk, wool, mohair and leather. Certain textiles require us to twist a combination of these yarns together prior to production while others in involve the custom production of yarns and specially dyed colours. Certain weaves include fantasy yarns, which are more fragile in nature than standard upholstery yarns, but give a distinctive look. The atelier is more than a studio producing beautiful works, it is also a centre for preserving European weaving know how. We are proud to be MADE IN FRANCE, supporting local manufacturing. Wherever possible, our yarns & leathers are of European provenance, spun and dyed by local producers. We strive to preserve an industry that has all but disappeared since the start of the 20th century, as production has been relocated to countries with lower labour costs. Our exclusive, international clientele includes architects, interior designers and galleries, as well as Barneys New York and the Willer Gallery in London. With our work and their support, we hope to ensure that unique skills and historic knowledge are preserved for future generations.
