Torchlight Services Information

Torchlight Services is a non-profit charitable organization providing vocational rehabilitation programs and services. The Torchlight Industries program started in 1974 to address the employment needs of people with disabilities. Funding was provided by the federal government's Local Initiatives Program. The program operated under the auspices of Community Torchlight (Distress Centre) until 1974 when it evolved into a separate organization, Torchlight Services. At that time, Torchlight Industries was a small workshop where clients provided mailing services for some companies or assembled products for others. The idea was to strive for integration and provide a service that no other agency in the community was providing. The Community Options program (COPE) was implemented by Torchlight Services in 1989 to fill what appeared to be a gap in service for people with disabilities. At COPE, participants are assessed and a clear picture is formed of possible outcomes of the program. The most desired outcome is to find employment. The Torinday program was established in 2002. This program provides vocational opportunities for adults with developmental/physical disabilities who require extra support and supervision while learning essential work skills. For some individuals finding gainful employment is a challenge. Since 1974 Torchlight Services has been providing a way to answer these special challenges through the provision of Vocational Opportunities and Alternatives. Our caring support staff work with adults who have varying levels of physical, psychiatric and/or developmental disabilities who lack valuable work experience. The success of our vocational programs is due in large part to the support provided by local business in our community. Your partnership in these endeavors is appreciated. As an organization we are committed to supporting people with disabilities to maximize their employment potential.
