Our Workforce The health service is the largest employer in the state with over 110,000 whole time equivalents (WTEs) (not including home helps) employed. Over 70,000 are employed directly by the HSE with the remaining 40,000 employed by voluntary hospitals and agencies. We are Pieta. the suicide and self-harm prevention charity. We are here for people in urgent need who are self-harming, struggling with suicidal thoughts, or have lost someone to suicide. We provide a free nationwide service that offers immediate support from our qualified therapists. They are available by phone and in person to those who need help.
