Established in 1937. Originally opened in 1937, Thriftee Food & Drug has been a community staple, offering low prices and fast, friendly service seven days a week. Our owners, Jake and Jojo Schroder fell in love with the Gila Valley on a trip, and in 1978 purchased the store. In addition to our quality produce, meat, and grocery items, our in-house pharmacy offers fast and friendly service. At Thriftee, we pride ourselves on being a family-owned business, providing excellent customer service in a down-to-earth atmosphere. With a full bakery and in-house florist, we have been the ultimate one-stop-shop in our community for decades. Thriftee was founded in 1937 by the Smith brothers. They created a great hometown grocery store that provided an essential need for the customers of the Gila Valley. In 1978, Jake and Jojo Schroder purchased the store after visiting the Gila Valley on a hunting trip and falling in love with its beauty. Jake had recently retired as CEO of Fry's Food of Arizona and was looking for his next opportunity. Thriftee was a perfect match! Jake and Jojo have operated Thriftee for over 40 years and continue to work at the store 5 days a week! Jake says, its not work when its fun!
