Founded in 2007 by Yasmine White, MT-BC, Voices Together is a 501(c)3 statewide organization serving individuals across North Carolina. Board-certified and trained in our method, Voices Music Therapists facilitate our program for children, teens, and adults with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), mental health conditions, and complex medical needs. The efficacy of our model has been studied and affirmed through a 3-year research partnership with Duke University that resulted in published articles in academic journals.
Voices Together uses the Voices Music Therapy (VMT) model to give individuals the tools they need to transform their own lives. Our program model offers individuals the support and tools to explore who they are, what they need, and how they want to communicate. We offer them the skills to self-manage emotions, problem-solve, and build confidence. These skills are transformative and critical to their success in school, work, and their communities. Voices Music Therapy (VMT) is a research-based, curriculum-informed music therapy model that helps individuals build critical life skills in new ways to gain independence, agency, and fulfillment in their lives. VMT is a non-directive model with an embedded Self-Efficacy Developmental Curriculum that addresses three core challenges of people who are neurodivergent or have related disabilities: (1) communication, (2) social/emotional learning, and (3) self-advocacy.
Many of the individuals we serve are triple-marginalized; in addition to their diagnoses, many are people of color and classified as Low-to-Moderate Income. Since 2007, Voices Together has filled a critical gap, providing Voices Music Therapy (VMT) that these individuals need and often can’t afford.
Disclaimer: The Lullaby Project makes every effort to determine the validity of the information on our site. However, we depend on the singers themselves in many cases. We depend on the singers for the tunes, words, and stories behind these lullabies, as well as the translations and their best-guess estimate of the age of the lullaby. All of this is to the best knowledge of the singers. We understand that words, tunes, and stories behind the lullabies change over time. Therefore, you may think the words are incorrect, but in fact, they are the words of that particular singer. Likewise, we accept the singers translation of their songs. We have many precious stories about changes in lullabies as they are individualized and hope you will understand that these modifications are what make lullabies living, breathing representations of our love for children.
Choir of the Earth was founded as The Self-Isolation Choir in March 2020 as a response to the Coronavirus pandemic, aiming to provide comfort and support to people worldwide who were feeling disconnected from family, friends and society by bringing them together to sing glorious choral works.
The Choir has since attracted thousands of international singers and received special commendation in the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Inspiration Award 2020.
Our performances have been featured across the UK media, including on Newsnight and Desert Island Discs.
Following a rebrand fit for the future, the Choir became known as Choir of the Earth, reflecting both its global presence and its dedication to climate action. Further information about Choir of the Earth’s projects, past and present, is available at https://choiroftheearth.com
