Threads is an Enactus run group project which aims to empower asylum seekers by providing them with new skills and employment. The project upcycles old, damaged or discarded jeans by repairing and revamping them, creating a line of unique patchwork jeans available to the public through pop-up retail units around Ireland. The asylum seekers will be trained how to produce and style these jeans, also allowing them to have their own creative input They will be given the experience of face-to-face interaction with the public in a business environment through selling the jeans in our pop-up stores. -Why Jeans? Firstly, we are recycling unwanted jeans donated by the public, which benefits the environment as recycling helps to reduce the pollution caused by waste. Secondly, it takes 1500 gallons of water to grow enough cotton to make just 1 pair of jeans!! This has a major impact on the Earth. Therefore, we are trying to reduce this impact by reusing jeans.
