AI goes straight to an answer. We slant toward thinking. ThinkSlant is a free community for teachers navigating the AI era, built by a Canadian nonprofit. No paywall, no account needed. It began with a question three educators kept returning to at Upper Canada College: what do our students lose when everything becomes easy? The answer was everything that matters. The frustration that precedes breakthrough. The confusion that builds understanding. The earned confidence of figuring something out yourself. Students reach for AI not because they are lazy, but because they are afraid, overwhelmed, or conditioned to prize the product over the process. So we don't blame students, and we don't chase them with detectors. Detection failed. Banning failed. Better design works. That design has a name: the Pedagogy of Productive Struggle. Its three dimensions, Motivation, Capacity, and Opportunity, describe the conditions that make meaningful struggle possible in any classroom, at any grade level, anywhere.
