What does it take for a community and its people to reach their full potential? What does it take for a community to learn more, be healthier, and be gainfully employed? What does it take for a community to flourish and thrive? It takes us...all of us, working together. There are six keys to ensuring a community's thrive-ability: 1) education, 2) economy, 3) health, 4) housing, 5) safety, and 6) resident engagement. We must understand the inter-dependent and inter-dynamic nature of these six keys. Inter-dependent -the six keys of a thriving community depend on one another. The more quality education an individual has is dependent on certain health factors, the health of an individual is dependent on certain economic factors, and the employability of an individual is dependent on a high quality education; housing and crime rates are interwoven in this perpetual cause and effect relationship. As a generalization it becomes more apparent that the "health bone" is connected to the "education bone" and the "education bone" is connected to the "economy bone," etc. They're all connected. There is a reciprocal relationship between the six keys. Inter-dynamic - the six keys of a thriving community are continuously in flux, dynamically changing depending on the status of one another. There is a figurative, and literal, reciprocal relationship between these keys. What happens if you change the length of one side of a hexagon? The other sides change too. The same is true when considering the status of the six keys of a thriving community. THEZONE Project focuses on helping a community reach its full potential, from within. No secret sauce here, no special program, just focusing on a process of change. THEZONE is a grassroots place-based collective impact initiative. Never before has there been such alignment in vision, of talents, gifts, and assets to accomplish transformational change community wide.
