The Vinyl District, your daily brick and mortar, indie record store fix, launched in 2007 as an homage to the vinyl medium and Washington, DC’s remaining record stores. In its second year, The Vinyl District (or TVD) partnered with Record Store Day (itself in its second year) as the “official blog” of the event, and with this partnership TVD’s audience became both national and international. TVD relaunched in January of 2011 with the DC model of localized vinyl, record store, and live music lifestyle reporting replicated across the US and into the UK. TVD’s front page, the “Storefront,” consists of daily national and international updates from New York City, Los Angeles, Nashville, Washington DC, New Orleans, Chicago, San Francisco, and elsewhere including the UK. Weekly, TVD features well-considered reviews, live performance coverage, as well as vinyl and ticket giveaways from the largest international acts to the smallest “you should get to know” bands. Interviews range from industry legends to emerging artists. TVD’s free GPS-supported record store finder app also houses the largest database of existing record stores on the planet right in your pocket with over 100,000 users since its arrival in December 2011. NPR, Mojo magazine, Pitchfork, MTV, and Gizmodo all took note. Now it’s your turn. Take us for a spin.
