The Rijksmuseum manages a number of internationally renowned collections in the field of Dutch art and history from the Middle Ages onwards, as well as important collections of European and Asian artworks. The museum’s objectives are to conserve these collections, to study them and add to them, and to make them accessible to as wide an audience as possible, both nationally and internationally.

The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam houses the world's largest collection of works by Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890), featuring masterpieces such as Sunflowers, Almond Blossom, Wheatfield with Crows, and The Bedroom. Furthermore, the museum collection of works by Van Gogh’s contemporaries features countless significant pieces by artists including Paul Gauguin, Camille Pissarro and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and an extensive print collection.

In ARTIS inspireren en stimuleren wij een breed publiek verantwoordelijk met natuur om te gaan. ARTIS met haar 25 rijksmonumenten bestaat uit een historisch stadspark, het bekroonde museum ARTIS-Micropia en het Artisplein met het aanliggende ARTIS-Groote Museum, ARTIS-café restaurant de Plantage en de ARTIS-Studio. ARTIS, dat sinds 1838 bestaat, is een stichting en een officieel erkend goed doel met het CBF-Keur en de ANBI-status. Er zijn ongeveer 160 medewerkers in dienst van ARTIS. Daarnaast zetten jaarlijks ruim 300 vrijwilligers en 80 stagiairs zich in voor ARTIS. Er zijn op iedere afdeling stageplaatsen beschikbaar voor studenten van allerlei opleidingen.
