Directors Stephen Hobbs and Marcus Neustetter based between Johannesburg and Vienna, Austria respectively, in collaboration with a range of project managers, designers and researchers provide a variety of turnkey solutions in public and corporate art installations, multimedia-performances and, placemaking through art. South Africa’s multi-racial, multi-lingual, and multi-cultural make-up, calls for a multi-disciplinary approach to thinking and doing. Hence our approach to project creation, development and implementation is informed by intensive context and place specific social and cultural research, which governs our collaborative and participatory methods of co-production. The main drivers of our practice include Public Art, Participatory Design, Early Childhood Development and Greening and Growing logics. Since 2004 The Trinity Session has been actively involved in Johannesburg’s urban regeneration projects, implemented through the 1% for Art Policy, which is linked to particular public realm upgrades where the historical significance of the place or site is amplified through an artworks programme that serves to bring history and memory to life through, small, medium, and large installations, ranging from temporary to permanent. Key to the success of much of our work, has been the ability to communicate with construction teams, heritage specialists, architects, and urban designers, liaise between the client and stakeholders on the ground, while working intimately with local residents and users. As a consequence of years of sustained intensive engagements with artists and creatives across south Africa, the Trinity Session has experienced a variety of consultative relationships and special projects locally and abroad, with with public and private sector entities including: Legacy Group, Redbull, Ars Electronica, International Society of Electronic Art, South African Cities Network, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, City of Johannesburg.
