The Tenney School was founded by George & Judy Tenney in 1973. Since inception, the school has relied on one-to-one instructions as the primary method for teaching. George & Judy firmly believed that the one-to-one format allowed each student to achieve his or her greatest academic potential. George & Judy Tenney retired in 2010. The school is now run by their son, Michael Tenney. The school has operated out of its current location since 1990. The development and growth of the school has resulted in an opportunity to expand into a new facility in 2013. The plan is for the school to begin the 2013 - 2014 school year in the new facility.
