The Systems Biology Institute Information

The Systems Biology Institute (SBI) is a non-profit private research institution established in 2000 with the aim of promoting systems biology research and its application to medicine and global sustainability. SBI focuses on rapid translation of basic research to practical outcomes including drug discovery, biomarker identifictaion, medical decision making, healthcare applications, global sustainability, and a range of technology solutions supporting the field. Established in 2000 by Hiroaki Kitano, a pioneer in systems biology, SBI has been working close with academic institutions around the globe as well as numerous pharamceutical companies, technology providers, and biotechs in order to fast track basic science into reality. SBI has been playing pivotal role in launching International Conference on Systems Biology (ICSB) , the main conference in the field initially orgnaized by SBI team and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), SBML and SBGN community building, Garuda Alliance, and creation of International Society for Systems Biology (ISSB). SBI have establihed its first overseas node in Melbourne, Australia in 2012 as a part of EMBL Australia, based at the Australian Regenrative Medicine Institute (ARMI) of Monash University. SBI has recently signed a research collaboration agreement with the Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) for joint operations in Singapore, forming a network of excellence in Asia-Pacific region.
