The Space Information

The Space is a Cheddar Valley charity dedicated to improving the mental health and wellbeing of disadvantaged children, young people, and their families. In Somerset’s rural communities, statutory mental health services are limited, leaving vulnerable and disadvantaged children, young people and families without timely support. Many service users have experienced trauma, neglect, abuse or mental illness in the family. We fill this gap by offering trauma informed play therapy and youth counselling; inclusive youth clubs; nature based therapies – a community garden and allotment project; young people’s events, e.g. FlanJam skateboarding festival; a new Youth Café with Teen Thursdays; a Community Support Hub, the Wellbeing Blend; parent support, e.g. SEND navigation and art therapy; and community breakfasts. Our services foster resilience, reduce isolation, and are designed to prevent escalation to crisis, and to empower families and the community to thrive emotionally and socially.
