We are sex and gender therapists. If you struggle with your sexual behavior or need help navigating questions around gender and sexuality, we’re here to help. Treatment isn’t just about what you do but who you are. Our patients are people, not problems, and we work with each person differently. We call ourselves The Sexuality, Attachment, and Trauma Project (or SAT Project) because your past impacts the present-day behaviors that bring you to therapy. Sexual issues often have their roots in traumatic events from childhood--such as parental addiction or divorce--that interfere with our ability to have meaningful attachments as adults. We treat a range of issues related to sexuality. These include out-of-control sexual behavior, sometimes labeled sex addiction (although we’re not fans of labels). Patients also come to us for intimacy anxiety, sexual compulsivity, gender and orientation confusion, LGBTQ+ issues, and family trauma. In addition to psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and groups, we provide support for the partners of those who struggle with out-of-control behaviors. The SAT Project is a continuing education provider for clinicians. We are thought leaders in the field of sexuality and gender, conducting cutting-edge research and presenting workshops around the country. We also publish extensively on this topic. In addition, some team members are organizational psychologists who design programs to help managers create a work environment where all employees thrive. Our world is in a crisis of connection, perhaps even more so as a result of the pandemic. We’re committed to helping our clients change their dissociative patterns and relieve the cycle of shame that so often accompanies out-of-control behaviors. Trauma disconnects us from the deepest parts of ourselves. At The SAT Project, we seek to help people who are suffering find their way home.
