ReCares began in 1996 with the support of the SanFrancisco Solid Waste Management Program and Alameda County Recycling Board to address the lack of access to durable medical equipment and supplies faced by thousands of low income Bay Area residents. ReCARES collects used durable medical equipment, assistive devices and surplus home care supplies donated by families, clinics, community health care providers and redistributes them to low-income people in need. We maintain distribution sites in San Francisco, Oakland and Marin. We operate with a minimal budget, four part time staff, volunteers and word-of-mouth promotion.
