The mission of Boulder Treasures is to create pathways to purpose and community for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our vision is for Boulder County to become an inclusive community that values the full participation of people of all abilities where they live, work, and play. Boulder Treasures was founded in 2013 by the parents of an adult daughter with developmental disabilities. They were inspired to launch The Ramble Collective after witnessing first‐hand the barriers their daughter and her peers experienced in securing a job after completing high school. Realizing the value employment provides in creating a sense of purpose and supporting full participation in the community and the challenges these individuals face with limited opportunity and an employment potential that is often misunderstood and overlooked, they created an apprenticeship program within Ramble on Pearl, a retail clothing boutique that operates as a nonprofit social enterprise. At Ramble, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities are provided on-the‐job training and work experience while serving the store’s customers. Then, once they have mastered these skills, they are supported with job placement services and transitional job coaching to support their goals for independent employment in the community. In 2021 we opened our second store, Ramble Marketplace, a gift shop that features products and handcrafted creations born and designed in Boulder, Colorado.
