The People's Pool / Our Lido Ltd Information

Our Lido Ltd was created to develop and deliver The People’s Pool - a beautiful, inclusive and sustainable new lido for the Liverpool City Region. Liverpool and Merseyside once led the world in open-air swimming, and for generations a day out at one of our eleven extraordinary outdoor pools was a highlight of every summer. The People’s Pool will build on this history, celebrate our unique location, and bring us together for health and happiness long into the future. Since 2019 we’ve been testing the idea with an ever-growing network of swimmers, activists, parents, kids, health advocates and professionals across many sectors. All these conversations have helped shape our plans, to make sure the People’s Pool lives up to its name and represents the needs, desires and very special character of our diverse community. We’ve researched dozens of pools, nationally and internationally, whenever possible by swimming in them and chatting to users and managers. And we’ve helped establish the Future Lidos Group, a network of projects across the UK and Ireland working to revive the lido experience in their local communities. Our Lido Ltd is a not-for-profit social enterprise, led by founder Deborah Aydon and a voluntary board of directors. These and many other professional experts have given their time for free to help move The People’s Pool forward, and we thank them all. We are also grateful to the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Wirral Council for initial seed funding that enabled us to develop the business case for the Pool.
