The Paul Foundation Information

The Paul Foundation is a not for profit IRS 501(c)(3) organization devoted to funding innovative lymphoma research and providing those affected by lymphoma and their families along with healthcare professionals with up-to-date information about lymphoma. The Paul Foundation's mission is to eradicate lymphoma, heighten awareness and serve those touched by this disease. The Paul Foundation will make a difference in the lymphoma community by providing funding to creative researchers who will undertake innovative research along with creating programs and services to bring awareness to the community at large but particularly to lymphoma affected young adults and the healthcare professionals who treat them. The Paul Foundation was founded in September of 2012 after the passing of Paul Walker Schaffel. Paul was 21 and a senior at Wesleyan University when he was diagnosed with Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL). Though he began undergoing chemotherapy at the end of 2011, he insisted upon completing the course work required to graduate, including his senior thesis. He graduated with honors in the spring of 2012, and planned to attend Harvard Law School. His dreams were cut short on September 16, 2012. Paul's last wishes were for his family to create a foundation in his name to fund research and raise awareness about ALCL and lymphoma so that other young people and their families would not have to share a similar fate. The mission of The Paul Foundation is, among other things, to fund lymphoma research and provide those affected by the disease and their families along with healthcare professionals with the tools to treat and cure lymphoma. The Paul Foundation will heighten awareness of lymphoma and further provide outreach for young people on college campuses.
