Camberwell Primary School is an innovative English French immersion school committed to providing an outstanding education in an inclusive, caring and supportive learning environment. Having become a bilingual school in 1991, the school was admitted to the Bilingual Programs Project in mid 1997 which provides additional funding to our school. In 2014 Camberwell Primary School became one of only two schools in Australia that have been awarded the "LabelFrancducation" seal. This award, bestowed by the French Government, recognised our immersion teaching and learning as being of a exceptional quality. A focus on personalised learning in a rich, engaging environment is our core purpose. With a strong emphasis on developing students' skills in French and English literacy, numeracy and ICT, Camberwell Primary School recognises the all pervasive importance of student wellbeing. Programs at CPS which support our students' development include Kidsmatter, Positive Psychology, Smiling Minds (a mindfulness initiative), eSmart and restorative practice. Specialist programs operate in Music, Visual Arts, Science, Dance and Physical Education. Ensuring our citizens of the future are confident, connected, creative problem solvers, risk takers and connected learners, Camberwell Primary School provides a digital rich learning environment. Students benefit from a 1:1 iPad program from Years 2-6, with significant device ratios for students in Foundation and Year 1. The school enjoys the benefits of an informed and involved community with a high level of participation through School Council, the Parents' Association, Class Coordinators and events such as our annual French Fete. Opened in 1867, the school retains the Victorian frontage whilst on-going enrolment demands have led to the melding of heritage structures with modern buildings. The student population is approximately 580.
