The National House Project (NHP) The NHP is a registered charity that builds the expertise and evidence base to support local authorities to develop their own Local House Project (LHP). The Charity was established in 2018 and provides a centre of excellence with knowledgeable skilled and experienced leaders who believe that young people can build good and positive futures with the right help and support.   The NHP is funded by the Department for Education until March 2020 and will support the development of LHPs to five local authorities. It will also develop funding streams that enables it to support the roll out of LHPs on a National basis post 2020. Whilst support to the five local authorities in the project is a priority, the NHP is already in discussions with a number of local authorities across the country about developing LHPs in their areas.   Local House Projects (LHP) The LHP gets to the heart of the issues that lie behind poor outcomes. The ORCHIDS Framework provides a structure to help young people safely manage the challenges of independent living. It gives them the experience of ownership and responsibility and as part of a community of support they develop their homes, gain independence and have direction in their lives. They take pride in doing things for themselves and this sense of wellbeing improves their outcomes and life chances. The first LHP was established in Stoke-on-Trent in 2015 with Innovation Fund money from the Department for Education (DfE). Following its success the DfE awarded further innovation funding to establish LHPs in a further five local authorities, Doncaster, Islington, Oxfordshire, Rotherham and Warwickshire. The LHPs are supported by the NHP. The House Project’s core principles and approaches are defined by its vision, mission statement and the ORCHIDS Framework – please visit the website to find out more.
