The Foundation was created on January 26, 1999 by the Housing Finance Authority of Miami-Dade County. It is a 501(c)(3) entity and certified US HUD counseling agency with staff certified in NeighborWorks Full Cycle Lending. The Foundation is also a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI); a community Development Entity (CDE); and a Community Housing Development Organization (CHODO). The Foundation actually began housing development in earnest during the past three years. To date, 40 homes have been constructed or rehabilitated returning them to the property tax rolls, generating mortgage lending, stabilizing neighborhoods and providing quality homeownership for families (mostly below 80% of the area median income).
