Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1906, the Mater Hospital Sydney is a world class facility operating over 230 hospital beds, employing more than 1000 staff and drawing on the talents of many generous volunteers. As a leading private hospital we are renowned for our care and compassion. We take a holistic approach to healthcare and acknowledge the uniqueness of every patient to create a healing environment that is second to none. Renowned for our maternity unit, we are also acknowledged as the largest joint replacement centre in the Southern Hemisphere and the only Australian member of the International Society of Orthopaedic Centres.
