The Light Foundation Information

The Light Foundation is a non-profit dedicated to eradicating energy poverty and stopping the 2 million deaths per year from kerosene related burns and illness. 1.5 billion people have no reliable and safe light source, 3 billion people live in energy poverty and have no clean and safe power source. The Light Foundation uses public and private partnerships along funded with donations to provide quality and sustainable light and power sources to Africa, Asia and Latin America. As singular lights or kerosene are all most communities can afford, we subsidise and give away larger village kits and household kits for medical clinics and schools. We see this as investing in long term development and providing a tool for those in poverty to improve their circumstances. The Light Foundation is currently working with the Swiss Development Corporation and the Shelter Committee from the UNHCR to assist it in lighting 10,000 homes, 20 medical clinics and 20 schools in refugee camps Chad by the end of 2013. The Light Foundation will also be piloting solar/LED lighting to replace the kerosene lanterns in homes, schools and medical clinics in the Aw-Barre, Sheder and Kebribeyah camps of Ethiopia with the UNHCR.
