The Indus Entrepreneurs - Bangalore Chapter Information

The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) is a global not-for-profit organization focused on promoting entrepreneurship. TiE helps budding entrepreneurs through advice, guidance and assistance from successful & experienced entrepreneurs and professionals. With Bangalore being crowned as the Silicon Valley of India, it seemed the best place to launch TiE India’s activities from. TiE Bangalore was the first step towards TiE’s presence in the country. TiE Bangalore Chapter was started in 1999 with Nandan Nilekani as its first President, Poornima Jairaj as Treasurer and A.J.V. Jayachander as Secretary. Commencing in a small way with a number of dedicated leading luminaries like Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Ashok Soota, B.V. Naidu, Dr. Sridhar Mitta and Pradeep Kar, the Chapter grew from a strength of about 190 members with 9 Charter members in 1999 - 2000 to over 550 members and 68 Charter Members by March 2007. The membership continues to grow further. The activities of the Chapter also increased considerably over the years and today it has regular monthly Networking meetings, special events, mentoring sessions and workshops, deal flow meetings, SIG meetings etc. Dr.Sridhar Mitta took over as President in 2002 and brought along his enthusiasm, turning Bangalore into a vibrant and lively Chapter. The Entrepreneur Acceleration Program (EAP) – a groundbreaking program by the Chapter launched in January 2006 to catalyze the eco system in India, was the first of its kind in the history of TiE globally. It has gained tremendous success and continues to be an innovative and effective activity of the Bangalore Chapter. Pradeep Kar took over as President in 2006. He has brought with him youthful energy and a fresh approach to growing the eco system to support entrepreneurship. Kar has introduced newer formats for events and has driven TiE to address the needs of entrepreneurs in non-IT sectors as well.
